There is a brand new open-source native desktop client for Google's Allo that solves at least one of the problems users might have with the web application. Namely, it bypasses the Allo for Web app's reliance on Google's Chrome browser which has been a problem for some users since the official web client was first released.

A developer named Kelvin Nguyen has compiled together a desktop client for Google Allo based on the web version of the app. Previously, the Allo client could only be run on a Chrome browser, which basically meant that the user needed to keep a browser tab open at all times to send or receive messages.

Almost a year after the app's initial release, Google updated Allo to work with a desktop client earlier this month.
