Building a Chrome extension for real Gmail read receipts — know the second your email is opened

I kept sending job applications and outreach emails with zero idea if they were even opened. So I built OpenTrace a Chrome extension that notifies you the moment your email is read, straight from Gmail.

What it does:

Instant notification on open, with time, device, and country
Gray check when tracked, cyan double-check when opened, right in your Sent folder
Filters out your own opens, so it's real data
Never reads email content just subject and recipient
I am solo dev building in public show some support guys i will post the link whenever it is ready i will take almost a week more.

What's one bug that took way longer to find than it should have?

Working on a Gmail tracking extension (Chrome + Next.js backend) right now, and just spent way too long chasing a notification that silently never fired turned out the message type was defined but nothing ever triggered it. Classic "the code looks right" trap
