Hi everyone,
I am one of the developers and founders of Hackevents. We started going to hackathons in 2013 and quickly found a need for a dedicated events calendar after missing multiple events โ> so we just built one! ๐
Fast forward to mid-2015, we expanded from puny Germany to grand Europe and finally THE ENTIRE WORLD!!! ๐
We are super popular in the hackathon niche worldwide โ that are not just students. We are supplying @devposthacks with upcoming hackathons and appreciate their work in the hackathon space as well.
We have been contemplating posting to @ProductHunt multiple times, but a website is never done. We are still actively working on the site, updating with new hackathons EVERYDAY, giving hackathon organizers full power over the display of their hackathons, and are open to suggestions :)
So for everyone who has never been to a hackathon ๐ฃโ first-timers I'm looking at you โ
OR people who are thinking to start going into computer science ๐ โ learn those street skills first https://hikaruzone.wordpress.com... โ
OR real hackathon champions, won a bunch of hackathons, financed their Apple Watches and Surfaces (which they don't use anymore) through hackathon winnings ๐ฐโ http://techcrunch.com/2016/01/24... โ
OR people thinking to organize their own hackathon ๐กโ make sure it doesn't clash with other hackathons on a particular weekend https://twitter.com/Hackevents/s...
HACKEVENTS IS THE PLACE FOR ALL OF YOU โ no more looking through Eventbrite, Devpost, Meetup, Google (haha), Facebook, or Twitter because WE CAUGHT 'EM ALL!! ๐พ (best Pokemon ball emoji I found -_-)
Disclaimer: some inspiration for elements of the website definitely came from @andreasklinger's Product Hunt and the Twitter login. We are avid fans of @Twitter and wouldn't have gotten this reach without them!
Let me know what you think in the comments, looking forward to having an awesome discussion with you. ๐ฌ
Thanks for reading this far; you deserve a cookie ๐ช
NOW JOIN YOUR NEXT HACKATHON AND THIS COULD BE YOU ๐ถ ๐ผ๐ ๐พ
I like this. I love hackathons and finding ones for certain dates/locations has always been an unsolved problem in my opinion.
However, my question (and concern) is: how will you get (almost) all hackathons in there? How will you keep the site from going stale? Hackathons are, by nature, extra-curricular in nature (like side projects). It's really hard to keep something like this going strong for a long time. Especially if you're not making money from it.
@callmeed you're right Erik, we aren't making money off the site. Luckily we have a main business that we are making money with ๐โก๏ธbuildmethisapp.com
We've been going strong - worldwide strong - since last August. We've collected and listed around 1500 hackathon since May 2015.
We have automated the hackathon aggregation engine so that there is minimal manual work by us. I can give you my word that hackevents will still be around when Python3 adoption overtakes Python2.xx ๐
I gotta say, not only is this the best tool to find hackathons for beginners and experts alike, the guys behind are also masters in organizing hackathons. well done!
Man this is great! Reminds me of when I was working on an events type iOS app that was going to be allow people to share when they were having hackathons and launch parties.
Well done!
@mfts0 Oh just kinda have it on the back burner. Maybe I could raise it from it's grave and we could bounce some ideas off each other? Shoot me a DM on twitter.
I first met Hackevents founders in London an year ago. They were doing to research and collecting data on Hackathons. I wasn't surprised to see them organising a successful Europe's biggest Hackathon last October. All the best to the team.
@phanipasupula Hey Phani. So glad to have you in our lives! The hackathon bonds are truly strong and stretch beyond borders of countries and continents. See you soon ๐
