Not sure how to say/use "Saoirse Ronan", "Superfluous", "Take a rain check", etc.? You can now search millions of YouTube video captions for words, expressions & even names! Hear native speakers say it. And, use it with 100% confidence!
I often find myself searching for word pronunciations on the web. But, most of the dictionary pronunciations I find online appear to 1) Have a robotic voice & 2) Lack any real-world context. So, I asked myself - "Wouldn't it be great to search YouTube for not only pronunciations but also usage context?"
And so, I built this app that does just that. YouDict turns YouTube into your dictionary. It works with words, expressions & even names too! The core technology itself is powered by YouTube captions + YouGlish API. Many thanks to Dan Barhen of YouGlish! 🙌
You go my personal best Value Proposition of the day. We have a coliving company in Los Angeles and people from all over the world apply to us. Often with First and Last name that it's even hard to read. And I was thinking where I can find a tool for my sales team to check what is right spelling of different names. You nailed it!
This tool is incredibly simple, intuitive, and useful. Well done on building and launching this! (Also, did not know about YouGlish as well, looks awesome!)
WHat makes YouDict so great is that I don’t have to rely on a robotic voice or wonder if my phone settings are on American or British English. I know the user is using git in the most vernacular way possible because it's a PERSON! I know I’ll be using this one a lot! Also thanks, I can finally pronounce Saoirse Ronan even if i can’t spell it *laughing emoji*.
