This is useful and congrats on the launch. I’ve looked through the YC directory before and usually gave up after a few pages because finding something specific is harder than it should be. Keeping the results to 1 to 3 companies is a good call too. I don’t need another list of 50 tools to sort through. How are you keeping the information current when companies pivot, change pricing, or quietly shut down? That seems like the tricky part, especially if the recommendation is based on an old YC description. The no-login part is appreciated. Makes it easy to just try a few searches and see what comes back.

clever use of the YC dataset, feels like something that should have existed already. one thing I didn't see covered - when it returns the 1-3 matches, are those always presented as competing alternatives to pick between, or does it ever recognize that a problem actually needs two of them together as a stack rather than one winner?
Really like that you didn't gate it behind a login. That makes it easy to test with real problems instead of asking people to commit first.
One thing I'd be curious about is whether you'll eventually expose why a startup wasn't recommended. Sometimes "we looked at X and rejected it because..." builds more trust than the final answer itself.

curious how ranking works when a problem matches several overlapping YC companies - is it embedding similarity on the description, or do you weight by stage/traction too so the sharper match doesn't get buried under the bigger name?
feels like this could replace scrolling through the yc directory by batch.

@kyle_bennett6 That's exactly the bet. The directory is built for browsing by batch, which is useless when you have a problem on a Tuesday. What did you search?
