How do you compare this with Memex 2 ? I noticed that this is a single purchase while the other is subscription based (with option to use free)
Actually I am using Memex 2 now, and subscribed for their cloud-syncing plan. One of my biggest complain is that Memex 2 currently cannot highlight iframe page, which prevents me to highlight from pinboard.in archival account.
@ybbond I can't speak for Memex but it looks pretty decent.
Here's my roadmap for the next 2 weeks:
- Add buckets(tags, basically) You can aggregrate
- Add PDF support
- Auto backups taken everyday.
- Better export features
About a month from now:
- Seperate into 2 different payment options. One time purchase and a monthy plan which will support these functionalities mentioned below.
- Sync with different devices(I suppose similar to what Memex does)
- Add ability to make a bucket publicly shareable.
In general the keys strengths of UnderlineMe are:
- A much better and visually strong user interface.
- Heavy focus on saving my user's time via a tight feedback loop.
- For the one time purchase plan, you don't need to fuss around with a login or anything. Your data is stored locally and it will Just Work.
Lastly, Memex is quite a bit ahead of me considering their 2 year lead but I hope to catchup soon. If you want a simple highligher, UnderlineMe is still worth considering.
Also, it would be great if you can share the pinboard.in archival link(if its online). I can take a look with my extension and see if it works.

@shash122tfu thank you for taking time to reply!
The pdf support is the one I am anticipating highly, I wish you good luck and keep up the good work!
unfortunately, the pinboard link is not shareable, and I tried looking for web that uses iframe as its content but haven't found any.

@ybbond@shash122tfu When you support sync feature, I will subscribe immediately.
@ybbond@jinseong_hwang On it JinSeong. No promises on the timeline but it will be landing sometime in late August and it will be billed on a monthy basis.

Is there any plan for syncing between computers?
Anyway, do you have any plan for user to shift one computer to another?
@jinseong_hwang Heyo, syncing is not on the roadmap. While I don't have any feature in the roadmap to facilitate shifting users from one computer to other, I have other features like export/import on the roadmap to make this possible.
Quick question - do you think there's a urgent need for moving notes from one computer to another?

@shash122tfu Not right now. However, I usually switch between my Desktop and laptop..
So, It makes me hesitate to purchase :(
I want to suggest you additional feature.
If you can provide syncing across dropbox, It will be awesome product than other highlighting apps.
Please look through it.

Loving this - Honestly, I feel your pain: The existing note-taking extensions on Chrome suck. The UX on this one is superb. Congrats on the launch!
@choskins780 Hey Christopher I'll be brutally honest - this is not on the roadmap. Syncing is not a easy feature to implement and introduces a lot of edge cases.
I've analyzed my competitor's products and except for a few, no one has got this right. Plus, with syncing, there will be a hard server side dependency which means I'll need to charge on a subscription basis. Which will alienate my current customer base.
The idea behind UnderlineMe is a Simple browser extension where all your notes are aggregated in a single location. No server side bs, no 'why are my notes not showing up', no subscription pricing.
Update alert - UnderlineMe has been updated to v1.5.1
- Added Always-on mode. Extension doesn't need to be explicitely on to show your annotations.
- Added reading view and grid view options to the dashboard. Also overhauled colors, sizing and typography to make it more sharp and appealing.
- Finally added trial mode. Feel free to signup for a unlimited time trial at app.underlineme.com

At this stage, UnderlineMe is mostly at feature parity with other highlighter tools.
Hi Producthunt! 🎉
I'm launching a tool for saving text snippets off any webpage and saving it locally in your browser. Commonly called a highlighter tool.
It is used for organizing research. Great for Bloggers, Newsletter Authors, Content Curators, etc.
Here's the story behind it:
I was looking around for a simple extension to save text highlights. Unfortunately most of them:
⚠️ Ask for unnecessarily extensive permissions when installed.
⚠️ Many require a account before they can be used.
⚠️ A few extensions pester you to upsell regularly.
⚠️ All of them have a extremely clunky UI.
⚠️ And almost all of them are dead.
After going through many highligher tools, I decided to make my own.
UnderlineMe
✅Doesn't beg you to signup for an account
✅Doesn't upsell you nor show you ads
✅Has a functional User Interface for browsing your notes
✅Comes with built-in full text search
This is just the first version. New features are cooking behind the scenes:
🤯Organize notes by tags.
🤯Note types(normal text, heading, code, quotes, etc). Also detect note type from selection. Useful for saving code snippets.
🤯Export collection of notes by markdown, html or plain text.
I'm launching with a discounted price launch price.
You only need to pay once and get access to the tool forever!
