@peterkimfrank currently you can only reply to the last person who texted you, but in the future you'll be able to go /sms 1-000-000-0000 Hey Bill could you pick up coffee?
If Slack opens up profile access, you might even be able to do /sms @marty Hey Marty, are you doing a delivery right now?
@peterkimfrank you can give https://smooch.io/slack/ a try for this use case. You'll be able to reach people over SMS, Web Chat, In-App Mobile Chat, Telegram, Facebook, etc...
@bgadoci no fax support sadly 😜
Instead, we're able to let you have consistent conversations with your customers across all of those channels and use whatever tools you already use to communicate with them (Slack, Front, Zendesk, HipChat, Help Scout, etc...) or our API that you can use to build bots and other automation.
This is a project that @codemarty and I have been working on for awhile: it allows you to build SMS broadcast lists (similar to an email newsletter list) and then engage with that list in Slack.
Imagine sending out a text a message to hundreds of people, and getting notified in Slack as people reply. Using /sms you can reply to the last person that texted you.
Update: forgot to say, we have a live demo here: just text this number (+1-628-888-6024) and see how easy it is to get new SMS subscribers.
This is really interesting. We're exploring messaging options as an alternative to social networks for our clients, right now concentrating on WhatsApp and Telegram. We looked into SMS messaging, but found that for a significant percentage of the market, SMS was cost prohibitive - as strange as that may sound.
@andreasduess yes. We'd like to build ours to be "channel agnostic" - meaning we'll eventually build on top of stuff like Telegram that has an API.
The challenge? WhatsApp and SnapChat don't have open messaging APIs. :(
