Press record, click through a task, get a captioned step guide, the screen recording and a PDF. Stepwise runs entirely on your Mac: no cloud, no account, no analytics. Free to start, Pro adds unlimited guides and exports.
I built it because Scribe-style tools upload your screen to a cloud, and I didn't want to do that with client work, internal tools or anything with customer data on screen.
With Stepwise you press record, click through a task, and press stop. You get: - a step-by-step guide with a screenshot and caption for every click - the screen recording, kept next to the steps, with "play from here" - a PDF you can send to anyone
Everything is processed on your Mac. No accounts, no analytics. The only network requests are an update check (app version only, switchable off) and, if you buy Pro, a license check with Polar.
Honest limits for v0.1: it captures clicks only (not typing or scrolling yet), records one display at a time, and needs macOS 15+. It asks for Screen Recording and Accessibility permission, because that is how it names the buttons you click.
Free gives you 5 guides of up to 15 steps. Pro is $19/month or $149/year, with a 14-day trial
What would make you switch from what you use today? On-device blurring of sensitive text is next on my list.
