Mission control for managing your teams to define actionable goals, track progress, set 1:1 agendas, crystalize focus, and capture kudos all in one place! Created by Design Lead @Square, used by 1000s of tech leaders to accelerate their teams’ career growth.
We have implemented many aspects of this doc on our team and it has made the working relationship between me and my manager stronger and more streamlined.
Hey, Product Hunt!
My name is Jenny and I’m excited to launch Square’s All-in-one Toolkit for Managers on PH.
I have collected the insights, templates, tools, and resources included in this doc throughout my time managing teams at Square. Since I built the first edition of this toolkit several years ago, I have been thrilled to see how it has been adopted and adapted by thousands of team leaders across a variety of industries. Now, I’m publishing it here so everyone can take advantage of this resource.
Origin of this doc: I have dedicated my career to building infrastructure to enable individuals and teams to perform at a high level. The systems and rituals included in this doc are designed to multiply the talents of my direct reports while making me a more effective manager.
Problem this doc solves: Have you ever gone into a one-on-one meeting intending to discuss career goals or peer feedback but lost track of what to reference?
Employee development plans are often disconnected from regular one-on-ones. Growth conversations tend get crowded out by competing topics (such as roadmap prioritization, project updates, hiring, etc.) and relegated to performance review cycles. Before this toolkit, performance feedback, action items, and proof points were scattered everywhere—performance feedback was logged in spreadsheets and internal employee portals, goal-tracking was logged in Google docs, and “Hype” was stored in Google Keep or Apple Notes.
What the doc achieves: With this doc, you can set a regular cadence to define, track, and discuss progress towards the career goals of all your direct reports. By setting agendas for each 1:1, you can lead meetings focused on clear growth objectives, map action items tied to ongoing projects or roadmaps, elevate and track kudos—all in one place.
These templates are meant to be dynamic—they will continue to be updated and improved over time. If you are currently building out your team’s HR function, we would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this material.
Try out the templates for free and let me hear your feedback!
