Hey Product Hunt community! 👋
My name is Michelle Fang — I fell into coliving almost by accident during the pandemic after being invited to live, work, and grow with 7 other Gen Z startup founders/operators/investors in Los Angeles. Little did I know that this experience would be the catalyst to a series of life-changing events: I decided to go all-in by digital nomading around the country with one suitcase & 10+ different coliving houses, meeting incredible people while bringing the community together, and sharing my story with Business Insider, the Information, New York Times, podcasts, etc.
I co-founded Elysian House, a coliving house for Gen Zers based in San Francisco and found immense personal, professional, and social growth through this community.
I started getting flooded with questions of how I started coliving houses, brought people together, and hosted community experiences to unite people — especially during a time of remote work/classes that strung us further away from community & our source of belonging. So many folks across all ages wanted to embark on their own coliving journey (the global coliving market itself is growing 30% a year) yet did not have the resources and guidance to do so.
That’s where this guide comes in: a living and breathing document sharing everything I've learned with open source resources and templates
My goal is to empower anyone to embark on the future of remote living & work. Everyone should be able to live their best lives. 🏡
You’ll find 50+ different resources, links, and editable templates you can copy and use today. Give the guide a flip through, try out the templates & resources, and let me hear your feedback! Happy to answer any questions around the coliving sphere in the comments.
Cheers & lots of love,
Michelle

I lived in a coliving house with Michelle in LA. Here’s why the experience surprised me.
Any problem you could think of Michelle had an answer. She has lived in many coliving environments and encountered every possible situation.

Thank you so much for creating this Michelle! As someone who is looking to join/create a co-living house, this guide is super informative and helpful :)
I was curious about your vetting process when it came to co-living applications. Were there specific criteria that you were looking for in potential housemates? How were you able to tell that all your residents were going to be active, driven, and fun to be around?
@taiki_vc yess had you in mind of course 🙌 stoked to follow how you utilize the guide :)
as for your question - this is something that comes down to the individual organizer (and why coliving houses can vary so much). we evaluate/think about candidates with the goal of the entire house (is it to launch companies, to explore/dive into certain topics, have certain experiences?) and how we think the entire group will mesh together.
tangibly, I think you can tell in the first 15 minute of talking to someone what their vibe is like, if they're open, eager to learn and participate, and community-first.
we're also still learning, too, and there's never a perfect formula for finding the best person - at the end of the day you're taking a bet on the person and build conviction that they'd be a great person to have in the house! 🥳
I have been wanting to bring a coliving startup house to my neck of the woods in Florida. Do you recommend having themed cohorts of people i.e consumer social for a few months?
@kevinnewmanyo thanks so much for the comment and support, Kevin! hoping that this can help you with launching in Florida :)
as for your question: i think themed cohorts can be super beneficial in bringing people together that you resonate most with, and increase the surface area for collaboration, shared learning, and empathy. you don't NEED to have a theme, I see it as a huge plus. lots of themed cohorts like Launch House or AR House or Brazen Bio hone in on a particular common goal that brings a lot of their cohort members tighter together.
Co-living is becoming more mainstream than ever. But it can be overwhelming to scour the Internet to do all the necessary research all by yourself. Well, that's no problem. This guide by Elysian House is a perfect resource to demystify coliving covering everything from how to join a house, what to look out for, how to organize your own, to hosting community events & sponsorships.
@thisiskp_ thank you KP for hunting us & sharing our project with the world! 🌎

It's honestly a struggle post-undergrad to find a community of like-minded individuals.
With remote work and loneliness on the rise, co-living is beginning to look like a valid option.
Thanks for the resource!
@selinayfilizp thanks so much Selin!! was a pleasure getting to share coliving with you and hope this is useful for you as you continue your coliving journey!
