What do you think? …

John Averi
I think this is really interesting and well executed. Although there are a few platforms that allow you to hire a developer in 5 min they tend to be very broad: you can go from getting help to code some program in C++ to fixing some CSS issues on a static page all in the same platform. Since the spectrum of tasks is so wide it is almost impossible to provide a great experience for everyone. ShopifyNerd chose to focus on a single vertical (online stores using shopify) and leverage the quality of the Shopify platform to deliver a great experience ( Shopify allows you to add a collaborator to your store that can quickly start fixing issues in a matter of minutes). At the same time a lot of merchants on Shopify are not very tech savvy and really feel the pain when something is broken so they want to have it fixed asap. I'm interested to see the same approach spread out to other verticals.

@johnaveri Thanks! We are totally focused on helping out Shopify users at the moment. It's a niche, but we believe there is a definite need for the help we are providing. We do have visions to expand this to other verticals.

@pecuniam_01 sorry to disappoint! Anyway, check out this new Red Hot Chili Peppers song that came out a few days ago

I am curious. Do you ever get requests that end up requiring a lot of back and forth, missed or added scopes, and/or unfamiliar expectations? Ever web developer knows those kinds of jobs. So with you providing a quote in minutes, how do you battle that? Do you say "we can't do that" often?
Peter Glovis
@nyalex Hi Alex, we've gotten better at it over time. In the beginning we just wanted to get as many jobs as possible and were definitely taking jobs we shouldn't have. A few points that have helped us: - Having a good set of qualification questions, and getting to those ASAP - Focusing on a specific set of issues (in our case we are focusing on everything Shopify) - Providing a stellar first experience so that more and more of our business is repeat customers Nowadays we do end up saying "we can't do" that often enough. Usually we try to point them towards resources that will help them solve their problem (e.g. sending them to help @ shopify, they tend to be super helpful; pointing them to agencies in case they want something out of our scope). Hopefully that was helpful!

@peterglovis Interesting. Thanks for the insight. I really appreciate it.

@peterglovis if someone comes to your team with questions about how Shopify integrates with our payment gateway, we're always keen to help.
Peter Glovis
@zacdavies will do!

Very cool. What is pricing based off of?
Peter Glovis
@joshdance The pricing is per job. Usually people tell us what they need to have done and we can give them a quota within a few minutes. We don't have a minimum.
Jason Pulliam
how is this priced? Per job or hourly? (I have a handful of shopify stores I support more from a marketing end, but would love to have a way to provide design support)
Peter Glovis
@einstein999 Per Job. We found that this pricing resonates better with merchants. Usually people will describe the task they need to have done (e.g. change the layout of my store on mobile) and we will give them a quote within a few minutes. We actually work with a number of agencies and freelancers that use us to help out their clients with all sorts of tasks. You can contact john@shopifynerd.com, John is the one that handles this type of partnerships.

Hi guys! Just wanted to thank you for all the support and feedback. Today we had hundreds of conversations with all sorts of people because of Product Hunt. We got a ton of feedback and suggestions. In addition, we helped dozens of founders change things in their store, fix bugs, create new pages, etc. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of being featured on PH. A big thank you from the Shopify Nerd team. 🤓
