One thing that could be improved would be adding some more auto zoom tweaking.
I found myself wanting to use the auto zoom, but not loving where the zoom landed in relation to the cursor, so I'd place a manual zoom right after, but it kept lurching around in the transition between the two.
Furthermore, it would be cool if you could manually choose when the cursor appears and disappears. The "Disappears after x seconds" is cool, but isn't quite enough control for me.
Other wise, great product!!
Hey Product Hunt,
Screen Studio 4.0 is here, and it's our biggest update yet.
Screen Studio records your Mac and turns it into a polished video. Zooms, a smooth cursor, and framing happen for you.
What's new:
• Glass Loupe. Magnify one detail under a glass lens, without moving the whole screen like a classic zoom does.
• Camera cutout. Appear in front of your screen without your background. No green screen.
• Edit by transcript. Delete a sentence from the transcript to cut it from your video. Filler words and long pauses are found for you.
• Split screen. You and your screen side by side, or stacked for vertical video. Every layout change animates on its own.
• Hide sensitive data and faces. Emails, phone numbers, card numbers, and keys are covered, and faces are blurred, even while you scroll.
• Sharper zooms. We trained our own model on macOS screenshots, so zoomed-in text stays sharp. Small custom cursors get upscaled too.
• Up to 4x faster exports. Plus ProRes for Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Premiere Pro.
• New audio engine. Scrub without clicks, keep your voice in sync with your camera, and make a quiet mic loud with the new Loud mode.
There's more: face tracking, color grading with LUTs, new caption styles, native macOS menus, J, K, and L playback shortcuts, and keyboard shortcuts that look like your Mac's keys.
And this isn't the end. We have more updates coming soon, and we can't wait to show you.
To celebrate, the Product Hunt community gets 20% off the first year of a yearly plan with code HELLOHUNTERS until 8 November.
What would you like to see in Screen Studio next? We read every comment.
@pie6k Can it automatically blur sensitive details in recording or di i need select them manually?
@merlindru
oky i will try it today and share my experience review tomorrow
@shivam_kushwaha16 Thank you! If it's not a hassle, it'd be great if you could share to team@screen.studio too. Then the entire team sees it.
@merlindru sure
@pie6k How well does the new transcript based editing work with longer recording, especially when removing multiples sections without affecting the video flow??
Congrats on the launch and good luck! Using the glass lens on my next demo 🥰
One major feature request: I've been using Screen Studio forever, but there are two missing things that make the workflow 10x slower:
Impossible to detach the audio track from video
Can't stitch multiple clips together
Putting this together in Final Cut Pro is a nightmare, it keeps crashing and doing weird stuff, so if you managed to ship these two I'm sure many of your users would be popping champagne and it would be a big differentiator vs cleanshot and others
@wojtekszkutnik Appreciate your kind words!! :)
We're aware multi-clips are direly needed, of course. We're working out how exactly these should work, but we're planning to address it soon. As for your first point - what would you need detaching audio for? Just curious about your use case.
Thanks for being a Screen Studio customer.
@merlindru there's a couple cases for longer recordings:
- cleaning ummss ahms coughs or someone walking in as you record
- moving audio vs video - sometimes the audio is just a narrative not something that is anchored to a very specific visual, so as you edit sometimes it makes sense to push it forwards or backwards - this happens a lot especially when you recycle shorter clips and mix and match
@wojtekszkutnik I've forwarded these to the team.
As for cleaning umms and ahms - that's already possible with 4.0. And even automatically so:
Alternatively, if you don't want to remove the segment, or do it manually, place two cuts like so:
...then click on the new segment and turn down it's volume manually in the sidebar.
Of course, I do see your case for voice-overs (and the easier ergonomics of pushing audio clips around). I've forwarded this to the team. I can't say what the solution might look like, but we'll be sure to discuss it. Thank you for elaborating!
@wojtekszkutnik Thanks for the feedback Wojtek!
I’ve been a happy customer for the last year but recent releases have felt more buggy than usual. For example, sometimes I need to restart the app since it’s stuck exporting. The features I love the most are transcripts, the cut/trim/speedup controls, and manual zooms.
Have not tried 4.0 yet but none of the highlights appeal to me at a quick glance. What would get me really excited is a solid MCP integration and the ability to mix multiple recordings in the same export. I’ll be switching over to the first alternative application I find that supports stronger agentic workflows.
@olafurpg The things you mentioned here are in the works! I can't speak to when they'll arrive or how they'll work, but of course we're aware they're direly needed.
And if you still have bugs with exporting, please reach out to team@screen.studio. We reply quickly!
If you end up giving 4.0 a try, please let us know how it goes.
Thank you for being a Screen Studio customer. :)
Edit by Transcript sounds like a real time saver for tutorials. Does the face and data blur catch things in the middle of a moving window too?
@neerajnathany Yeah! It should even catch half-obscured things.
We hope this makes many people's workflows much, much faster. Where you previously had to manually cut out and animate masks with external programs, you now just toggle on a single option in the Screen Studio sidebar.
Disclaimer: in some cases, albeit rare, mistakes can happen of course. So please check the exported video once yourself.
Yay, another super happy user here!
It's fashionable these days to animate captions. But I live in a world where conversion counts, and animated captions in our product videos exclude appr. 14% of the audience. Can you build in an option to turn the animation off?
We wrote to each other, exactly a year ago about it 😊 Topic: Re: Screen Studio Feedback - accessibility of captions.
@anne_mieke_bovelett1 Hi Anne! Yes, we found our emails!
We rebuilt captions in 4.0. The word-by-word light-up you mentioned is now the “Fade in” option, so you can turn it off by picking “Appear” under Word animation in the Captions tab. Words still show up as they’re spoken though, so it may not be fully static yet. You can also export the transcript as .srt, which now matches your cuts, and use it as regular captions on YouTube or your site. Would that work for your audience? If not, tell me what you’d need and I’ll pass it straight to the team.
I was one of the very early users of screen studio, and bought the annual license for recording demos for my apps, the experience has been nothing less than amazing. Although my license does not get updates anymore, its still very useful, happy to see this still receiving updates and improving. 🫶
@ankushkun Thank you Ankush, it means a lot that you’ve been with us since the early days 🫶 Drop me a line at david@screen.studio, maybe we can figure something out for you to try 4.0.
@dawid_wilewski sure thing! just sent an email
@ankushkun I just had the same problem, built and open sourced it -> https://bestboy.dev/grip
No need to mail anyone to start getting updates, or worry about unnecessary subscription costs. Feedback from early users had been nothing but fantastic. I'd love to hear yours too!
@ankushkun same here as well. I purchased the annual license before the new updates. Im unable to get new updates but I recently used it last Friday to share a demo and my team is still blown away by it. I recommended they check out the project.
@ankushkun @charles_anim You can email me, Charles!
david@screen.studio
I absolutely love Screen Studio, just renewed my annual license for the second year.
The amount of abandoned open source and free alternatives to it is ridiculous, and Screen Studio gets it -- because they charge money to make their business running.
The new glass loupe thingy is awesome, I just finished making a batch of videos with it (you can see the date is yesterday in my calendar on my dock 😄)
Appreciate all the had work and updates Adam, looking forward to see what other beautiful features you decide to give us in the future.
Upvoted.
@matan_hazan Thanks Matan! This screenshot looks stunning.
@dawid_wilewski Thank you! It's thanks to your hard work ❤️
@matan_hazan Amazing image.
@merlindru Appreciate it :-)
