Renewables.org, the solar investing non-profit, has released a $25 gift card. In seconds, send an investment in Global South solar to the friends and family. They'll be reminded of your gift with every monthly repayment as Panels generate and sell electricity.
Lassor,
I have two questions for you.
Looking ahead, what are some of the future developments Renewables.org, are there any new features or projects in the pipeline that you're particularly excited about?
and
What advice would you give to aspiring social entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in renewable energy or sustainable development?
@paul_subzak one of the most substantive innovations we've worked on with Renewables.org is the 'Impact Multiplier'. This is the methodology why which we determine how much more climate impact investing in Renewables.org makes compared to investing in a typical U.S. based solar development. Right now, we've shown that you make five times more impact!
In addition to providing an interesting benchmark for our users, the Impact Multiplier is also part of our investment criteria when we work with solar developers to decide which projects to fund. As we mature and become better resourced, I'm excited to improve the multiplier as we share it with more developers and partners.

As far as advice goes, I think I can really only address entrepreneurs who are interested in bringing a start-up approach to a non-profit. There is an inherent challenge here in that most foundations and other grant makers are not set up to give money to agile, non-capital intensive projects that can scale.
They understandably want to make sure there is an guaranteed ROI — so making a grant that goes directly to, for example, operate a soup kitchen is a much easier sell than building a tech product. So to be successful you have to effectively balance the needs of those stakeholders against the needs of users and beneficiaries.
@lassor, you have created something truly amazing! Not only are these Renewables.org Gift Cards the perfect gift for those who care about climate impact, but they offer the added advantage of cash back. Kudos to you for coming up with such an eco-friendly and financially rewarding solution!
@rep_eat This means a lot to me and the team. There is something about seeing the real time impact of your investment, as well as some of the financial return, that makes participating with Renewables.org more accountable and rewarding than typical philanthropic products. We wanted it to be accessible to everyone, so the minimum ticket is just $25 dollars. We really believe that we can reach Kiva-like scale and make a big difference in climate adaption in emerging markets, one Panel at a time.
