Hi PH community! I’m Jason, the maker of Receipt Taxer.
I built this because I realized that for many freelancers and small business owners, the "shoebox of receipts" is still a real thing. While there are many expense trackers out there, I found two major friction points:
They often force you to link your bank accounts (which many of us aren't comfortable with).
Manually mapping receipts to Schedule C categories is tedious and error-prone.
Receipt Taxer is a web-based SaaS designed to solve exactly that. You simply upload a photo or digital receipt, and our AI handles the rest:
Instant OCR: Extracting data accurately in seconds.
Smart Categorization: Automatically mapping expenses to tax-ready categories.
Privacy First: No bank connections required. You remain in full control of your financial data.
I’d love to hear your feedback! How do you currently handle your tax prep? Are there any specific features you'd like to see added to the workflow?
I'll be here all day to answer your questions. Thanks for the support! 🚀

Congrats on the launch! Embarrassingly, I have a plastic wallet that I throw all my receipts into and then sort through when I need them. This is a brilliant idea. Can I ask, how does the AI use/store data from input receipts?

@leah_dyke Thank you so much! And don't be embarrassed—the "plastic wallet" method is exactly why I built this. I had a shoebox full of paper that made tax season a nightmare.
Regarding your question about data, here is how the system handles your receipts:
1. Data Extraction (The "Use")
When you upload a receipt, the AI acts as a digital clerk. It performs OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to identify specific text fields such as the merchant name, date, total amount, and tax.
Categorization: The AI then matches these details against Schedule C categories (like office supplies, travel, or meals) to help you organize your deductible expenses automatically.
Privacy-First: The processing is focused strictly on these financial data points to generate your expense reports.
2. Data Storage
Security and privacy are core to the architecture. Here is the breakdown of how things are stored:
Images: Your receipt images are stored in a secure, encrypted cloud bucket. Access is restricted so that only you can view or download your files.
Structured Data: The extracted information (vendor, price, etc.) is saved in a protected database. This allows you to search, filter, and export your data as a CSV or PDF whenever you're ready to file.
No Bank Links: One thing we do differently is that we never ask for your bank login credentials. By focusing on receipt uploads rather than account syncing, your primary financial accounts remain completely disconnected and secure.
We aim to keep the "shoebox" convenience while giving you the organization of a professional accountant. Let me know if you have any other questions!

As someone that still collects, receives, and manages an Excel sheet daily, this is going to be so clutch! Congrats, can't wait to get good use out of your product.
