PriviMetrics

Privacy-first, cookieless web analytics, no database needed

PriviMetrics is a lightweight, privacy-first web analytics tool designed for websites running on shared hosting. It works without cookies or trackers and uses a flat-file architecture by default for speed and simplicity. For higher-traffic websites, optional MySQL support can be enabled during installation. Unlike traditional analytics tools, PriviMetrics runs on standard PHP hosting without VPS or background services, giving developers full control over their data while staying GDPR-friendly.

I started building PriviMetrics when I was looking for a free analytics tool for my own websites. I tried a few popular solutions, but they were either too heavy, not really self-hosted, or simply not made for shared hosting. On shared hosting, scripts often loaded too late and missed visits, which was frustrating. So I decided to build my own solution. At first, it was just a very simple project to count page views. Back then, it was called UltraPage Analytics. Over time, the project grew into PriviMetrics, a lightweight, privacy-friendly analytics tool built with plain PHP and designed to work reliably on standard shared hosting. For location detection, I chose a simpler approach. Instead of using heavy IP-based geolocation services, PriviMetrics uses browser language and time zone to identify the user’s country. This method is more privacy-friendly, uses fewer resources, and still works even when visitors use a VPN.

@oprzadek This is a very real problem. Shared hosting is still everywhere, yet most analytics tools ignore it.

The lightweight PHP-first approach and privacy-friendly location logic make a lot of sense. Especially the focus on reliability over fancy tracking.

This aligns closely with why we built Curatora. Simple infrastructure, low noise, and tools that respect real-world constraints.
