We were just talking about this in the last Product Hunt Radio episode with @hunterwalk and @satyap. Unfortunately this requires each person to record the pronunciation of their name and embed in their email sig, website, etc. I want this integrated into Refresh (cc @bhavinator) or Siri.

@rrhoover Couldn’t this be “wikipedia-ed” and crowdsourced? Shouldn’t have to require the actual owner do the recording, but could have 1st person verification. Then it could be built into products more quickly.
side note re: candy/vitamin/pain-killer: Everyone—ok not everyone, but 98% of people—pronounce my last name wrong, and I don’t feel enough pain around this to go through the hassle.
@thomasknoll I sometimes google "how to pronounce [name]" before I meet people. Often the pronunciations these (SEO optimized) sites provide, are accurate.
side note: is your last name pronounced "null"?
Basically, Namez's goal is to help eliminate the mispronunciation of names. Not just personal names, but also places, products, companies, bands etc.
There are a few sides to this. On a personal level, people can record their names, add to profiles, mail signatures, websites, blogs, for others to hear and know how to say right, and their name will be available to hear in search results.
Also, some people record names they like, whether it's an artist, band, place, restaurant or street, just because it's FUN.
This adds value to others as people can search, hear names and get interesting and cool content (such as the World Cup Namez now).
Another side to this is the branding and marketing side, whether personal or business. When people hear a name, they not only know how to say it, but as researchers point out, they will remember it better!
To sum up, Namez is a platform for people to set their names straight and any other name in the world via website, apps and coming soon, more cool technologies.
I want to say thank you, as we are very happy and honored that you guys chose to feature us on this great site.
Hope you enjoy.
