A friend of mine is working on a similar product. I'm curious how it technically works. Anyone have more info on this?

I'm also curious about the specifics. My best guess is that it's technically similar to reverse-proxy cache server(like Varnish). @rrhoover What's your friend product? I'm on a hunt for something like this.

Based on the code samples on their In Use page, it looks like they've developed an RPC protocol similar to Apache Thrift. This means that they probably compress and send data more efficiently than a traditional REST API. Evernote is the one service that I can think of that uses RPC over REST. Their SDK must also embed a cache in the iOS or Android client.

@rrhoover Is there cheaper alternative for this?
