Steve Paul
Hey everyone, I’m Steve and I helped build Equalist. Equalist makes you and your friends a playlist based on each of your Spotify histories such that each member’s top tracks are equally present on the playlist making the playlist into an “equalist”. With an equalist, you don't have to argue about who gets the aux during house parties and road trips because virtually everybody gets the aux. And for the cherry on top, you can make an equalist in a matter of seconds. TL;DR - Makes a playlist based not just on your taste but based on your friends’ taste too. - Perfect for house parties and road trips. - Time to create: a couple of seconds. - And, it’s free. I first faced this problem when I was on a road trip with my friends and then decided to launch the first version of equalist during a 24-hour hackathon with Bharath but we weren't quite satisfied with the product so we decided to go back to the drawing board and do a ground-up rebuild of the app. For this version, we spent a lot more time designing the UI/UX experience and planning on how to source the tracks for maximum enjoyability. Equalist marks our first launch on PH and we hope you find our product useful. We also would love to hear your feedback on the product and I’m happy to answer questions.

@steve_paul2 congrats on the launch! What do you think about Spotify Discover Together? Or what about Roadtrip
Steve Paul
@chrismessina Hi Chris, To be honest I didn’t know about discover together and road trip but after looking into it. I, think there are some key differences. Spotify discover together and road trip are both great products. Both catering to a different user base than equalist. In comparison, Equalist lacks in some of the social features offered by road trip but compensates that with speed. In contrast with Spotify discover together, Equalist let's you create combined playlists involving any number of people. In my understanding, Spotify discover together limits you with 2 people per playlist Our target users are people who want something quick and easy with 0 commitment. We think asking friends to sign up causes a lot of friction in the onboarding process. Our goal was to minimize time to make playlists because convincing your friends (or even strangers at a party) to click a link and press a button is much easier than asking them to go through a sign-up process but we are locking ourselves to Spotify users only. Thank you for the question, Chris. What do you think about our product?
