When researching new ideas, it can be a lot of manual work to find if something similar already exists in the market. Does It Exist is a semantic search engine, that helps you check if your idea already exists and explore variations around that idea.

While brainstorming we get a lot of ideas and trying to find out if a similar idea already exists, is a lot of work. It involves going to multiple product directories and then going to each specific product there, and then reading their value proposition. To simplify this, me and my brother, decided to build Does It Exist. We search our idea and receive a list of similar ideas that already exist, which saves us a lot of time. Apart from doing just idea research, it has also become a tool to: 1. Find competitors working on similar ideas 2. Explore different solutions and perspective others are bringing in a market 3. Find products to partner with We have around 50,000 products in our database, and are building systems to ingest more products, so we can give higher quality search. Would love to get feedback and suggestions on how we can improve and make it useful for creators looking for their next idea.

@ena_gluhakovic Thank you Ena! Good questions, and there are some things we have done and some things we would like to do in future versions. We use semantic search, which tends to work better than keyword search and also makes the UX simple, type freely without thinking of keywords. We plan to add a chat with data to refine the results even further. We decided to keep ideas whose link had expired or were dead, because that is also a data point that a product tried and failed in the market. This forces one to answer the question, if similar products failed, why would you succeed. There are a bunch of data cleaning steps to make sure data quality is good, these will be improved further and also more sources of data will be added, which will improve search quality. Finally we are working on categories, so Does It Exist is a generic search on all products, we'll add doesitexist.io/design or doesitexist.io/apis to make it easier to find ideas in that niche.

@prabhjotsl Excellent idea! I found this on Product Hunt while browsing and roaming through the pages. Incredible stuff for innovators, surfers, idea hunters and especially for serial entrepreneurs.

The ability to search for similar existing products and explore variations on an idea is a valuable feature. This could help identify potential gaps in the market or opportunities for differentiation. And I love the design 🥰

@jaredl Thank you so much Jared for such kind words and for noticing the design ☺️

I love this idea, this is super useful when trying to find a new project to work on. One small suggestion: It would be nice to be able to go directly to the website of an existing product from the search result page without having to go to the product detail page first.

This looks great, guys! A useful tool for me as a solo founder, both for researching and for submitting my ideas 🙂 How did you work to build your database? Any sort of automated tooling?
Prabhjot Singh Lamba
@aken thank you Aken! Please do submit your ideas. We use Craftar.io a NoCode automation tool we built for building our data pipelines.
