What do you think? …

Adam Cohen Hillel
Heya Product Hunt community! We think the world needs products that can provide individuals with affordable 24/7 support, now more than ever. We are so happy to get to this point and share what we've been up to; as all of us at Deepen have experienced the difficulty we are trying to solve: getting therapy. Whether it's the time or the cost it takes to get it right, the process is hard - but it doesn't need to be that way! With Deepen, our AI therapy app, we hope to solve it. We'd love it if you would try it out and send us any feedback - we're always looking for ways to be able to help our users even more Adam

@adamcohenhillel Building Deepen with my best friend has been an absolutely wild ride so far. 🚀 Being able to use Deepen has actually been helping me through it as we go. I'm still surprised sometimes with how insightful it can be and how much it's learned about me and how I work best. We've really been trying to make something that we love using ourselves and are really proud of. Really hope that you like it too 🙏
@adamcohenhillel Congratulations Adam for building a wonderful product 🎉

@adamcohenhillel Good luck, guys! 🚀🚀🚀

@adamcohenhillel How is it different than basic chatGPT? you can ask the same questions there.
Vasily Malyshev
@adamcohenhillel Adam, congrats on the launch! I wonder what do you see as the main differences between therapy with a human and therapy with AI? Or perhaps the line is blurred and there should be no difference?
Congrats on the launch! This looks great, @adamcohenhillel and makers. I do have a few questions: 1) How is it different from ChatGPT? 2) How do you track mood, stress, etc? 3) As a maker myself, I'd like to understand a bit about your business model as your site doesn't have pricing yet (if I am right).
Daniel Hunt
@senthil99nathan Great questions! 1) Two main differences although there are others. First: the memory of Deepen is unlimited - it can recall & fetch information from any of your previous conversations with the AI (whereas ChatGPT is very limited in that regard). Secondly: it's carefully tuned to provide a good therapeutic experience and to behave in a more human-like manner than ChatGPT does. 2) Primarily sentiment analysis - it's surprising how much the way we write can give away how we are feeling! 3) The mobile app has a freemium model with a free trial. That means you can enjoy the app with limited access indefinitely or you can subscribe to get full access (which includes a 7-day free trial during which time you can cancel and never be charged)
@daniel_hunt4 , sounds great, Daniel! And thanks for clarifying. All the best again on your launch :)

@senthil99nathan @daniel_hunt4 Great insight here.

Hi Team! Congrats on the launch. Recently I upvoted the similar service "Lily". They launched 27 August. I like such products because they care about the mental health. But in Lily the main specific is to speak with AI, and I am speaking Russian (it's my native language), and when AI replied me on Russian, it was funny and I couldn't concentrate after I heard it and this accent:) Also the makers didn't reply on upvoters question and I didn't start use this product. As for you, 1) do you have other languages? 2) what is your pricing?
Daniel Hunt
@anna_kasumova At the moment we support English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Hebrew by default. Definitely interested in adding more languages though so we very open to requests!!
Daniel Hunt
@anna_kasumova As for pricing - we have a freemium model so you can use the app with some limits on functionality for free! To get full access it is a monthly subscription but with a 7-day free trial so you can try before you buy

@anna_kasumova @daniel_hunt4 Looking forward to have Italian as a Language!

I was literally just trying to find a therapist that accepted insurance so very timely for me! One question, there's obviously very personal things shared. How does a user know their most personal parts of their life are secured and private?
Daniel Hunt
@justin_govy As Adam mentioned in another comment just now, we're super obsessed about protecting our users' privacy. From his comment: Anything you put in Deepen is 100% private. All data is stored securely and encrypted; you may delete it at any time. We use OpenAI's services for some text analysis, and they provide the same assurances (as well as automatically deleting any data they keep within 30 days). We do not share any data with advertisers or other third parties. We definitely need to make sure we're communicating this better on our website and in the app so thanks a lot for the question and feedback 🙌
Justin Johnson
@daniel_hunt4 Awesome, really looking forward to trying it out!

@daniel_hunt4 Glad to know you are keep privacy in mind. Thats great. I'm always concerned since therapeutic settings necessarily involves intensely personal information. However to use gpt in the back it has to be given text in plain format and not encrypted. Similarly for information retrieval for memory which I assume uses some form of semantic similarity model requires text in plain format. That being the case I'm curious about the process/accessibility of decryption keys on your team. I'm building something that also involves private information of users being exposed to gpt and have been unable to yet find a bulletproof way of ensuring privacy similar to E2E encryption such that only the users and gpt have access to the sensitive content. Would love to pick some tips from your team if possible

@justin_govy Check out https://www.psychologytoday.com. There is a therapist finder. 100% free. And you get a heavily-educated and experienced human instead of ChatGPT in a wrapper.

Congratulations to @daniel_hunt4 and the whole team! This product is very important regarding mental health - not everyone can afford therapy sessions and also not everyone has someone to talk to on a daily basis and struggles of every day life. Sometimes all you really need is to say what you are struggling with and hear that everything is going to be okay.
Daniel Hunt
@sandradjajic Exactly!! Even if our product only ends up helping a few people in need then I'll be counting it as a success
Stefan Pettersson
Great initiative and congratulations on being a pioneer on what probably will become a quite crowded space. In terms of feedback, I expect a common concern that may be raised is the question of privacy. Especially in Europe with GDPR that does put even higher requirements on dealing with personal and health-related data. Maybe it could be something to address on the website how the data is used and stored?
Daniel Hunt
@stpe Great point! In the app you can find the functionality to delete all your data as required by GDPR. Of course everything is stored completely privately and securely and you're right that we should emphasise that on the website - will get right on that after the launch!
Stefan Pettersson
@daniel_hunt4 I assume you are not based out of the European Union (any longer), so I guess you don't really need to follow the GDPR rules. It is more that GDPR have created a greater awareness about data privacy that hence may trigger potential users to wonder about it. GDPR is way more than allowing a user to remove their data.
Daniel Hunt
@stpe I believe we would still need to follow GDPR for our European users wherever we are based. Happy to be corrected on that if I'm wrong though!! For sure deletion is only one of the many requirements - just mentioned that to make it clear that we have implemented them since it's typically the one that companies are most reluctant to support 😉 I'm strongly in favour of the GDPR requirements in general though - I think it's really important that people are in control of their data and that companies are forced to respect that.

Hey, I'm depressed and living with suicidal thoughts since I was 13. I attempted in my school days but was saved .Will it help in coping with my gender dysphoria ?
Daniel Hunt
@gauravdoodles Deepen doesn't aim to fully replace mental health professionals or medical treatment. It will help where it can but will also refer users to medical resources in severe situations. Please DO try using it, but not at the exclusion of everything else! We'd love any feedback you can think of while using it 😄
Gaurav Kumar
@daniel_hunt4 Dude you should not be laughing I guess 😪. I am a transgender and what I have suffered since my childhood in this shit world only I now . I have no one to fall back into in my bad time . It is just me and god 🙏
Daniel Hunt
@gauravdoodles Sorry - I didn't mean the emoji in that way at all. Thought it was just a smile. Would never want to make light of your situation at all
