How do your best moments end up lost?
I've been thinking about this a lot over the past two years because my best memories are often scattered everywhere. Google and Apple Photos do a decent job in showing me what was happening 2 years ago, but they don't see the full picture, because some moments are shared in other apps.
A funny video in a WhatsApp group. A photo your friend sent on iMessage. A voice note from my oldest son that my wife sent me two years ago. We are so used to sharing these memories on messaging/social channels but they are not build for you to go and find these moments easily.
Then months later, you want to find that moment, and it's just... gone. Which app, which chat was the memory in, and when you do find it, it's potentially gone, because you have changed your phone.
Hi! I'm Jens, founder of Capsule.
We launched Capsule to the world last summer, but the story behind building this goes back a few years. My mom was diagnosed with cancer, and it hit me hard: there's so much about her life I don't really know. How do I capture her stories, her voice, her perspective for my siblings and her grandkids? How do we make sure that doesn't get lost?
Fortunately, she survived. But that question never left me. And that's what became Capsule.
The core insight is simple: People want to preserve memories (their own, for their kids, parents, pets, loved ones). But they need help doing it without it becoming a chore. Most of us end up with thousands of photos on our phone that we never look at again.
So we rebuilt Capsule from the ground up to solve that. The heart of it is still the same: instead of just a photo or video, you add your voice. Later, you don't just see the moment, you remember what was happening. The funny story from that weekend away. Your best friends singing happy birthday. Your parents recording a message for their grandkids that unlocks in 10 years. Or capturing life lessons from older generations while you still can.
What's new, we added a bunch of AI filters to enhance how you experience it without changing what actually happened.
*turning a moment into a moving newspaper (remember those moving newspaper images in Harry Potter?)
*turning a few pics into a comic—that
But the biggest change is this: we built features specifically to solve the curation problem. It's not that people don't want to save them, but by habit, most people share their photos on messaging apps:
1. Forward from WhatsApp: you see something worth keeping in a chat, forward it directly to Capsule
2. Capsule suggestions: We notice when you were traveling in the past, celebrations and events and suggest a Capsule with sample photos/videos from that trip. Review, add/delete, save. Done in under a minute.
3. Easy sharing: Share a Capsule with loved ones. Now they can upload photos too which is perfect for weddings, birthdays, family gatherings (or view if you don't want them to add content).
We rebuilt the onboarding so you can try Capsule before logging in, and simplified everything so saving a memory actually feels effortless.
Here's what I'm genuinely curious about: Do you actually look at the AI-curated memories Apple or Google suggests (do you save them)? Or does something feel different about Capsule: the voice overlays, the sharing, the intentional curation?
I would love for you to try it and tell us what you think. Your feedback will directly shape where we go next.
