Here's something I will never be able to do: Ask my grandparents detailed questions about their lives. Why? Because they passed away a long time ago.
What was it like growing up for them in the 1930s and 1940s in India? What were the moments that shaped them? The funny stories? The hard times they overcame? Raising my parents and advice they want to pass on?
I was young when they passed but I know many people who would have loved to ask these questions, but life moves fast and sometimes we are too late and these stories may be lost forever.
I've been thinking about this a lot over the past two years because my best memories are often scattered everywhere. Google and Apple Photos do a decent job in showing me what was happening 2 years ago, but they don't see the full picture, because some moments are shared in other apps.
A funny video in a WhatsApp group. A photo your friend sent on iMessage. A voice note from my oldest son that my wife sent me two years ago. We are so used to sharing these memories on messaging/social channels but they are not build for you to go and find these moments easily.
Then months later, you want to find that moment, and it's just... gone. Which app, which chat was the memory in, and when you do find it, it's potentially gone, because you have changed your phone.
Your camera roll keeps everything. Capsule keeps what matters for you and your loved ones. Add your voice to photos and videos to tell the stories behind them or bring them to life with AI. Turn a camping trip into a fun comic strip, create a custom song for your child's birthday or simply save grandpa’s life stories before it is too late. Keep the stories, jokes, and voices that make memories real. Not a photo dump. The best moments, preserved for you, or shared with loved ones.
