Anja is the engineering system one developer built around Claude Code while shipping a production web app between March and October 2026. It is extracted and cleaned for others to study, use and adapt. Claude Code supplies sub-agents, skills, hooks and memory. Anja adds the discipline between them: who delegates to whom, how sessions share one branch, who reviews what, how a session recovers after a compaction, and how a correction becomes a lesson, a rule, then a guard. Open source, Apache 2.0.

Hi, I'm a solo developer. Between March and October 2026 I built and shipped FinalFrame, a photography critique web app, working with Claude Code every day. Anja is the engineering system that grew around that work.
It started with failures you may know. The agent said a step was done without checking it. It repeated a mistake I had corrected the week before. It forgot a decision. One session committed another session's half-finished lines. Telling it not to in a prompt worked for a while and then stopped working.
So I kept adding: written rules, memory that survives the session, hooks that warn or refuse at the moment of the act, and review by a session that did not write the change. The commit mistake became a lesson, then a rule, then a script that refuses when anything besides the files you named is staged. Later I started measuring individual mechanisms to see which ones worked.
Anja has a lead session you talk to and 33 specialists it can bring in. It is published under Apache 2.0, cleaned of the app's own and private material. It is a working example to copy and adapt, with no plugin or installer.
Claude Code already has sub-agents, skills, hooks and memory. One page shows where a native feature now does part of the same job.
The repository also includes an evidence page documenting what was tested, what worked, what didn't, and what remains unverified. I wanted to publish the engineering record alongside the system itself.
Start small: the hooks and one rule file, then a rule when a measurement earns it. Read the settings file before you open the folder, because the hooks run with your full user permissions.
If you work with Claude Code on long projects, what keeps coming back for you? I'd also like to hear where Anja is wrong or too much, and which guard you wish it had.
