Compare yesterday & today‘s weather

90 followers

My weather need is simple: is it warmer or colder today? Yestoday shows yesterday and today next to each other, so you instantly know if today is warmer or colder—no digging through screens. To make the daily check feel calm rather than utilitarian, the UI blends in curated oil paintings that echo current conditions—clear skies, rain, and night scenes—so the atmosphere on screen matches outside.

What do you think? …

The iPhone Weather app can show yesterday's weather of course, but it takes extra steps. After putting up with this for a long time, I built a demo with Apple Weather data to place “today vs yesterday” side by side. A few weeks later, it felt right, so I turned it into a full app—Yestoday (Meaning Yesterday + Today).

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback or ideas for what's coming next — thanks for checking it out! 🙌

@ddiiiik I love when functional things don’t look utilitarian. This feels quiet, thoughtful, and kinda comforting to have on screen ) cute 😊

Dominic Huang

@marina_sysoeva Thank you, Marina! That’s exactly the feeling I was aiming for. Glad it comes through.

Weather Apps are surely hard to innovate in 2025, but you've managed it! 🤓
Congratulations on your launch! 🚀

Dominic Huang

@avloss Thanks!

Great job @ddiiiik , congrats on the launch! Have you though about adding the Tomorrow as well ? In order to have an easy view on yesterday , today and tomorrow?

Dominic Huang

@pamela_requena
Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion—and for checking out Yestoday! I actually include a Tomorrow comparison as part of the membership features. I know it isn’t immediately obvious; that’s intentional so it doesn’t add extra noise when it isn’t relevant. There are two ways to see it: on the Today vs Yesterday table, swipe left to reveal Tomorrow’s weather; and after 7:00 PM, the app automatically switches to a Today vs Tomorrow comparison. The widgets follow the same behavior.

Wow, Yestoday is brilliant! I love how the UI uses art to reflect the weather. Does the art change hourly to match the specific time of day, or just sunrise/sunset?

Dominic Huang

@jaydev13 The artwork adapts to the current weather conditions. For each condition, I’ve curated multiple paintings so it feels cohesive and alive. Some artwork variations unlock with continued use and with membership, which helps keep the experience fresh over time.

Congrats on the launch! 🚀 The widgets look incredibly polished. I feel like the 'Home Screen' real estate is so valuable these days, but this is one I’d actually want to pin just for the aesthetics.

I'm curious about the data source you're using. I know Apple WeatherKit offers historical data, but getting accurate 'yesterday' data for comparison can sometimes be tricky with API rate limits/caching. How did you tackle the data latency? Supporting you!

Dominic Huang

@elevenapril Thank you! Yes I’m using Apple WeatherKit for both current and historical data. So far, it has been reliable in my testing—no particularly tricky latency or caching issues. I’m monitoring it, and I’ll consider integrating additional data sources for redundancy and accuracy.

Cool idea! I often decide what to wear for the current day based on the previous day’s weather. Since where I live in the US south can have large temperature shifts from week to week, I sometimes choose incorrectly. Your app is a nice way to keep my basic system but do it more accurately. The main feature I would like to see added is the ability to get the weather forecast privately. Location sharing does make the user experience more seamless, but I would greatly prefer entering my postal code vs adding another app that can track my location.
Dominic Huang

@kilpatrick Glad you like it and thank you for the thoughtful suggestion! Yestoday is designed for a global audience, and postal/ZIP codes differ widely in format and precision across countries. In many regions they map only to broad areas, which can reduce accuracy and consistency for the simple "warmer or colder" comparison. Given these limitations, I won’t add postal/ZIP code input for now, in order to keep the experience consistent and minimal.
