Google+ 2.0? From what I've read, Spaces is more focused on small communities focused on specific topics (e.g. comics), similar to many Facebook Groups. @lukew shares more about the upcoming launch on the Google blog, rolling out today.

@rrhoover @lukew this could be what google wave should have been ^_^

@rrhoover @lukew Google+ 3.0 or 4.0? (given the number of attempts to re-invigorate it or create a social app!) :)

@rrhoover Spaces is for small group, almost "ad-hoc" sharing: buying a car, planning a trip, sharing music recommendations, etc. These kinds of Spaces can be spun up instantly (just one tap) and can fade away when un-needed. Spaces isn't a social app/media/network. It is a utility/tool and the feature set reflects that.

@rrhoover If you're interested in the feature set I referenced here's an ongoing set of posts about it (easier to follow than my tweets): https://plus.google.com/u/0/coll...

@guidouil @rrhoover @lukew ahh, Google Wave! Those invites were the hotness for a short while!
Scott Entwistle@scawtent · Founder, Job Ordered
@grahammcbain haha I remember that, so much hypeeee

@lukew @rrhoover 404. That’s an error. Revenge of the circles!
Damian Esteban@estebanrules · CTO @ betterPT
@grahammcbain They sure were. I really dug Google Wave.
Chris Leong@chris_leong
@lukew @rrhoover If it is for something ad hoc, why won't people simply use email or group messaging? It takes a lot of social capital to convince your friends to plan using a different platform.

The nasty scrolling on the launch page sucks. I don't want to have to scroll a million times to read six sentences, dammit!
Chanan Greenblatt@chanan__ · Design founder. Artist.
@anowlcalledjosh I found the frontend and illustrator awesomeness inspiring and rich.

@anowlcalledjosh agreed, we feel the same & need to improve this.
Sebastian Kim@sebastiank · Co-founder, engineer of Bark
@anowlcalledjosh +1, I guess the problem is developers and testers in Google only uses the highest spec dev machines, so they don't really test it on 4 year old laptops.
Shaomeng Zhang@randomor · Flipgrid, hack learning and edu.
@anowlcalledjosh if you are talking about the giant card + header + one column layout, totally agree. The information density of this design is really low, maybe it is mobile-first and don't have a problem with wasted horizontal space, but it is also using too much vertical space with it's giant header and cards, I can only see at maximum 2 cards in full from my 15'' screen Macbook Pro. Made a similar comment here: https://www.producthunt.com/tech...
Sergey Pozhilov@serggg · Full stack dev, founder of Sendtoreader
@randomor @anowlcalledjosh it seems to be mobile-only at the moment, unfortunately.

This sounds cool but I'm starting to get fatigue from material design. Small groups concept with material design feel more like a standard hotel room instead of an AirBnb.
Nathaniel Blackburn@itsnblackburn · UI Engineer
@mbalex99 It suffers the same fate as Bootstrap, they should never of made it public for people to abuse.
Razvan Tirboaca@razvan · Founder @cofffre
@mbalex99 " Small groups concept with material design feel more like a standard hotel room instead of an AirBnb" - same feeling here!
Reinald Freling@rfreling · Founder of CocoaMail
@mbalex99 it feels that every tap is rewarded with bells and whistles. It's almost patronising.

Seems I'm here a bit early "Product will be live shortly, check back soon" How long is shortly, cause I'm ready to check this out. Edit: The App is NOW live!

@pixelenglish Well, there's IO later this week ... :)
Jerry Becker@beckerjs · All Around Good Guy
@pixelenglish : also a little bummed they didn't put an email signup to be alerted at launch. Now I have to remember to go back on my own? Sometime....soon??

Whether or not you like the idea, I think we can all agree that the whole landing page is seriously cool and creative.
