Buy/sell cheap unused domain names from/to indie makers

Indie makers and founders register so many domain names that are perfect for other projects. Why not put them in a marketplace vetted for quality, where other makers can find cheap options to start their own projects?

What do you think? …

Hi all! A lot of indie makers and founders go through a ton of domains while coming up with a good product to work on. Most of these sit in registration purgatory, renewing every year for a constant what-if. As one of these domain name collectors, and seeing people like @shpigford list his domains for sale all at once for low prices https://bsky.app/profile/joshpig... , I decided to make this easy to find and share with other builders. So here's https://www.shelved.domains/ ! It's a marketplace where you can sell and buy domain names with other founders. The names are vetted for quality (so you get things like isabela.io and not xyusasdk.com -- the problem with the large marketplaces today), they're sourced from founders/makers (so no big domain investors that own thousands of domains), and they're all buy-it-now for $500 or less. We don't charge any fees and we don't do any of the actual transfers - we just link to SEDO/Afternic (which handles payments, escrow, etc). The way. I make money is by listing some of my own domains, but I'm not featuring them or promoting them past other submissions. So it's pretty simple, but I hope it's useful to prevent a lot of great domain names just sitting stagnant forever. Let me know what you think!

Do you verify domain ownership?

Jared Rhizor

@pablo_hernandez10 No, but I do verify that the person has some social proof of who they say they are. I don't think they have a ton of incentive to submit domains that they don't own that are on a marketplace.

So far, most people submit just a handful of domains so it doesn't seem super sketchy. I imagine I'll encounter fraudsters eventually, but worst case Shelved will just point to a safe marketplace link where people can buy the domain.

@pablo_hernandez10 I'm only posting links to marketplace URLs on Afternic/Porkbun/Namecheap/etc, so if the domain sells before I update the site, they can't hijack the purchasing process through the domain itself and try to scam people.
