Your "we use AI" line is now a consent screen. Apple's rule 5.1.2(i) has been live since November.

Apple's App Review Guidelines say you must disclose where personal data goes to third-party AI and get explicit permission first. A privacy policy paragraph doesn't do that.

Most of us read Apple's November 2025 guideline update, saw "AI" in it, and filed it under things for the big players. I did too, until I reread it as someone who sends people's journal entries to a language model.

Apple's new age-rating question is mandatory this month. Answering "no" isn't the end of it.

Since July, App Store Connect asks whether your app has social media capabilities. From September, you can't submit a new app or an update without answering.

Apple posted on 9 July that the age rating questionnaire now includes questions about social media capabilities, and that "beginning in September 2026, responses will be required when submitting new apps or updates to the App Store, or when submitting apps for notarization for alternative distribution." September ends tomorrow, so if you have a build in flight, this is the week you meet it.

Apple's EU commission cut is worth five points to a small dev. Do the arithmetic before you take it.

From 1 October, leaving Apple In-App Purchase drops a Small Business Program developer from 15% to 10% in the EU. On a 4.99 euro subscription, a processor's fixed per-transaction fee can eat most of that on its own - and your choice locks for 12 months.

Apple updated the Developer Program License Agreement on 18 August, and the new EU business terms go into effect on 1 October. The coverage I've read frames it as Apple finally opening up. That's true in a structural sense and mostly irrelevant to anyone running a small subscription app, because the interesting question isn't whether you can leave Apple's payment system. It's whether the arithmetic works. For most of us it doesn't, and it's worth being able to say why rather than just having a feeling about it.
