Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Sundar, and I built Gesto because gesture recognition almost always means one of three things: sending your webcam feed to some cloud API, wrangling a complicated ML pipeline, or writing a lot of model code from scratch. I wanted something where anyone could build their own gesture recognizer — on their own machine, start to finish. Gesto comes in two parts: 🖐️ Gesto Labeller (free desktop app) — point your webcam, perform a gesture, and capture labelled samples. Static hand signs, two-handed gestures, full-body poses, or motion sequences like walking and waving. Explore, edit, and export your dataset — all offline. 🐍 gesto (Python package) — pip install gesto, then train a model and run live detection with a single command. The whole point is control: your data never leaves your machine, there's no account, and no cloud. The Python package is MIT-licensed and Gesto Labeller is a free Community Edition. I've used it to build things like an ASL alphabet recognizer and a walking detector — but I'm really curious what you'd build with it. Sign language tools? Fitness/activity tracking? Touchless controls? Something I haven't thought of? Happy to answer any questions here — feedback very welcome. 🙏

Launching Gesto tomorrow! (formerly SignSpell) 🚀

Hey everyone! Tomorrow I'm launching Gesto on Product Hunt and I wanted to give this community a heads-up first.

Some of you might remember it as SignSpell. I've renamed it to Gesto because the project grew beyond sign language into a full framework for gesture, pose, and activity recognition all running on your own machine, no cloud.

It comes in two parts: a free desktop app (Gesto Labeller) to capture gesture datasets from your webcam, and a Python package (pip install gesto) to train and run models with a single command.

What should Tool become — open source or with community Edition?

Hey everyone,

I've been building a labelling tool, a desktop app (PyQt6) for capturing and annotating gesture datasets think of it as a companion tool for gesture recognition pipelines like Gesto, making it easier to collect, label, and export hand landmark data for training models.

I'm at a fork in the road on direction, and I'd love your input:

1. Open source it release it freely (currently GPL-3.0), let the community use it, contribute, and shape where it goes.
