Privacy-first AI is criminally undervalued right now. The framing about every typed word going to a server you don't control is the cleanest articulation of what makes cloud AI feel off, especially as data accumulates over years.
Building Fenly (AI translation extension) with a similar local-first stance on history. The thing I'd love to see in local AI: serious multilingual support that doesn't degrade to English-or-nothing at smaller model sizes. Translation work needs decent quality across language pairs, and most local LLMs trip on non-English performance below 7B parameters. Curious if your fine-tuned models hold up multilingually or are English-primary.
Strong launch. The OSS angle matters because users can verify the privacy claims, not just trust them.

@nazarenko This is such a good point, especially the “English or nothing” problem. Most smaller local models still struggle once you move beyond mainstream English tasks, and translation quality drops fast across real world multilingual conversations.
We’re actively working on improving multilingual performance in our fine tuned models because privacy first AI should not be limited to English users only. A big focus for us is making smaller models more usable across diverse languages without needing huge hardware.
And completely agree on OSS. Privacy claims mean much more when people can actually inspect and verify what the software is doing instead of just trusting a company’s wording.
Fenly sounds really interesting too 👀 Local first translation is a space that deserves way more attention right now.
@aditya_kumar_jha1 Multilingual fine-tunes at smaller scale is genuinely hard work. Most labs default to English-primary because the multilingual training data is messier and quality is harder to evaluate per-language. Glad you're pushing on it.
One pattern from Fenly's translation side that might be useful: the smaller the model, the more registers (formal/casual/technical) collapse to a single voice. Quality at 4B feels OK on a single text, but feels generic when you hit different contexts back-to-back. The thing that holds best at smaller sizes is targeted fine-tuning on conversational pairs rather than broad multilingual coverage.

We’re pushing this way beyond just a desktop chat app. Right now we’re building a complete CLI ecosystem that can work both fully offline and hybrid online/offline depending on what the user wants.
A lot more updates are coming soon better local agents, developer workflows, automation, lightweight deployments, and deeper privacy-first tooling. Still very early, but the vision is big. Stay tuned
