Hi Product Hunt, I built YT to Text to solve a narrow retrieval problem. Useful information in a long YouTube video is often available but strangely hard to retrieve. The product starts from a simple principle. A transcript should not become a detached wall of text. It should act as an index that keeps a path back to the original video. Paste a public YouTube link with available captions and you can search exact words or phrases, move through each match, and select a timestamp to verify the corresponding moment. From the same successful transcript, you can copy readable text or download TXT, SRT, and VTT without submitting the video again. The product is equally clear about what it does not do. The free transcript workflow retrieves caption tracks that already exist. It does not generate captions for a video that has none. Available languages come from YouTube’s caption tracks, and automatic captions may still contain errors in names, numbers, punctuation, accents, or technical terms. The timestamp is there so important lines remain easy to check. No video or audio upload is required. Workspaces stay private, anonymous history is removed after 24 hours, and failed requests do not consume the free allowance. The first three successful transcripts work before sign-in, while a free account currently receives five successful jobs per day. I would love feedback from students, researchers, writers, educators, and video editors. Which part of the workflow matters most to you, fast search, source verification, clean copy, or subtitle downloads?
