The current state of visual identification apps is a mess. Reverse image search gives you related images - comb through them to maybe get an idea of what you're looking at. Google Lens might give you a quick explanation, or it might not. Enter What Is This Thing. Take a picture and get a quick explanation right away. No signup, no subscription, no fuss. Looking at an IC on a circuit board? Know what it is and what it does. Looking at a strange thing you've seen on vacation? Find out what it is and what makes it special. Looking at a toy your child has gravitated to? Get a quick name so you can go hunt one down. If after all that you don't find out what you want, take that same image to Lens, ChatGPT, or elsewhere with our Further Research feature.

This is truely awesome! I love that you can just take a pic and get an explanation *right away* — no account needed, which is a huge plus. So many image ID apps are such a hassle. The "Further Research" feature is a nice touch too, for when you need to dig deeper. How well does it handle really obscure stuff, though?
