What's the one website you'd never want someone opening on your laptop?

Mine is my email. Not because there's anything scandalous in there. It's that one open tab is basically a master key to everything else.

I've been thinking about this a lot because, years ago, I built a small browser extension for myself that puts a password in front of specific websites. It's like the app lock on your phone, but for the web. I never marketed it, and somehow it ended up with 10,000+ installs. Most of the people using it aren't technical. They share a computer with family, a partner, roommates or coworkers, and they just want certain sites to ask for a password first.

Over the years those people sent me hundreds of feature requests: schedules, different passwords for different sites, locking the whole browser, nicer lock screens. So I rebuilt the whole thing from scratch as Web Lock 2.0, and I'm launching it here soon.

Before I do, I'm curious:

  1. Which site would you lock first? (Email, banking, photos, chat, work tools, something embarrassing?)

  2. Do you share a computer with anyone, or has that habit died out?

  3. What would make an extension like this something you'd actually trust? Mine keeps your password and site list in your own browser, with no account required.

I'll read and reply to every answer. The best ones will probably change what I build next.
