What's daunting about self-learning is not unknown, but not knowing what's unknown. It's like fumbling in a dark room with a lighter not knowing how big it is. WarmMachine maps domain concepts in machine learning and lights the room up for self-learners.

I always find it hard to have a quick start in a new area of learning, not only because of not knowing where to start, but also because of not being aware of how much waits ahead of me in this journey. Search courses on MOOC platforms doesn't help because I have no control over my learning experience apart from following a 1-for-all syllabus. I wanted to build a tool where I can manage my mastery of knowledge and access only to the content that's related to my current level and my personal learning goal. With WarmMachine, concepts are visualized in a map according to their prerequisite relationship, while online course and book resources are dissected into bite-sized snippets about each concept. This makes online learning a streamlined process of truly mastering more and more advanced knowledge, instead of a series of trial & error and struggles with course completion.

@bochkovaleks Took us 2 full-time months to build the aggregator and another 2 to build the concept map. Yup, quite a lot of work ;)

@lajlev Very nice juicy feedback, thanks Michael! We are working on user dashboard at this moment - you should be able to sign in and track your favourite courses soon! Quick question: if you get suggestions of similar courses based on the courses you mark as interested, does that replace the "Subscribe to a topic and get notified when there's new course" feature? Thanks!!

@phinoda I think suggestions on platform is awesome, but you need to pull users back to the platform. A way to do that could be sending out an email notification when new videos is available, or something similar.

This seems like an aggregator of online courses available from multiple online learning sources, like how Kayak gets your the price of a plane ticket from multiple sites, but this does it for online eductaion courses from multiple providers?

@davidshamiri Hey David, you named a half of what WarmMachine is. Another half of it (which makes it different from all the other MOOC aggregator) is that it reorganizes online courses based on the concepts contained in each of them. The idea is that with the concept map, instead of completing courses, the actual learning happens when you master more and more advanced concepts. Taking your Kayak example, apart from aggregating plane tickets, we also map your journey :) Please let me know if that answers your question. I also noticed that you marked Doesn't recommend - it would be nice if I could learn the reason. Thanks David!

@senchy Hi Senad, we curate ~500 concepts mainly in machine learning and math for now, and will gradually expend to other areas. You will only see result of courses if your search does not land any concepts. Does this answer your question?

The idea is brilliant! The concept trees (and the selection of concepts) needs revision, though - I checked the Linear Algebra and Machine Learning topics and some of the key concepts are missing, but that's not critical ;)

I just discovered this cute & eccentric course discovery tool from product hunt. As an avid learner myself, I am glad the website offers a myriad of credible course lineups from multiple sources. Many similar websites provide similar services, with the cost of premium membership and rampant advertisement, but few are like WarmMachine, which has a great emphasis on Open Course and free education for all. I remember 20 years ago, a draft of MIT “Open University“ was proposed. However, even after two decades, such vision still not comes into fruition. There is no recognized and systematic way to take on a subject on one’s own. The “openness” and “free knowledge for all” Warm Machine envisions are dear to reminiscent. I wish WarmMachine has a well journey ahead and so is our spirit to learn and pursuit

@ken_moo Yesssss. We are envisioning a way bigger map that eventually maps most of the domain concepts. Math x Machine Learning is a sweet start point as the domain knowledge is well established & structured.
