What makes Waloki different from other private subscription trackers?

by

There are already subscription trackers that take privacy seriously.

So why build another one?

For me, the difference isn't simply that Waloki is "private." It's the approach I chose to take.

Most subscription management tools try to make tracking as automatic as possible. That can mean connecting financial accounts so the app can discover your subscriptions for you.

Waloki doesn't do that.

You tell Waloki what you want it to know.

You add your subscriptions and free trials, and Waloki handles the repetitive part: tracking billing dates, calculating upcoming charges, showing your subscription spending, and reminding you before you're charged.

I deliberately chose this approach because I don't think you should have to give an app access to your financial accounts just to answer a simple question like:

"What subscriptions am I paying for, and when will I be charged?"

Manual by design

Manual tracking isn't something I'm trying to work around.

It's part of the privacy model.

Waloki doesn't need to discover everything about your finances. You decide what information to enter, and you remain in control of what Waloki knows.

In other words:

Waloki automates the reminders, not access to your financial life.

And Waloki isn't designed to take control of your subscriptions either. If you decide it's time to cancel something, that's your decision and your action.

There are other private subscription trackers out there, and that's a good thing. I'm not trying to claim Waloki invented private subscription management.

I'm trying to build a version of it around a simple principle:

You shouldn't have to trade financial access for subscription reminders.

That's the difference I wanted Waloki to bring to the table.

I'd genuinely love to hear from people who use subscription trackers:

Would you rather have everything automatically discovered, or would you prefer to explicitly choose what information the app gets?
