Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Angel, and I built VoCalm because traditional journaling never stuck for me.
The problem: After 10-12 hours staring at screens, typing my thoughts felt like homework. Every journaling app I tried ended up abandoned.
The insight: What if you could just... talk?
What VoCalm Does
Simple flow:
Talk about your day (10-15 minutes, just natural conversation)
AI transcribes + generates insights, coping tips, journal entries
Over time, patterns emerge (your stress triggers, emotional cycles)
Get stress relief techniques suggested for YOUR specific patterns
The unexpected benefit: When you talk vs write, you can't overthink mid-sentence. Raw thoughts come through. That's where insights live.
Built With
OpenAI Realtime API (real-time voice)
WebRTC for ultra-low latency
Next.js + NestJS
Pattern recognition across sessions
What I Learned Building This
Month 1-2: Overengineered everything. Classic developer trap.
Month 3: WebRTC integration is beautifully frustrating. Spent 2 weeks debugging connection drops.
Month 4-5: Getting from basic transcription to actual useful pattern recognition took way longer than expected.
Month 6: Implemented time-based pricing (buy hours, use whenever) instead of subscriptions. Users prefer it, but the billing logic was complex.
What's Different
Voice-first: Talk, don't type
Pattern discovery: See your stress triggers over weeks
Practical coping strategies: Breathing exercises, reframing techniques when you need them
Time-based credits: No subscription guilt, pay for what you use

Not a Replacement for Therapy
Important: This isn't therapy. It's a daily reflection tool. I still see my therapist, and VoCalm is supplemental.
What I'm Still Figuring Out
Better onboarding (first session still feels weird)
Mobile audio quality consistency
Organic growth for wellness apps
Monetization that feels ethical
