How do you manage variations in prototypes?

by

I’m a PM, and I’ve been prototyping more and more in Lovable/V0 lately – it’s quickly becoming my default sketchpad for product ideas.

One challenge I keep running into when sharing with stakeholders: how to present different variations of the same prototype.

It feels like today’s vibecoding tools don’t yet have the equivalent of feature flags, a simple way to toggle between ideas within one prototype.

I’m curious how others approach this. Do you fork? Keep multiple versions and restore as needed? Or is there another workflow I should try?😉

You can just Remix it, that way, you create another copy you still own

@emmanuel_onwuka The Remix is a great option! But if you want more control of what stays and what goes, its not as flex and IMO just takes too more time to pull out codebases from what you want from other versions.

I manage variations by simply taking my first version, copying it to make multiple versions. Here's the questions I ask before I work through my framework, journeys and workflows:

1) Foundational- Did I hit all the necessary essentials?

2) Prominent Features- What feature makes V1 stand out? What features could be it's own prototype?

3) Competition- What REALLY makes us stand out from the competition?

Could you just use google sites and then embed your versions into it for easy access and present in a gallery/portfolio style?

You could also instruct a prompt that informs it to allow you to toggle between the prototypes. Simply make it an icon at the top of your header and in one click it goes to the prototype you want?

@deboraht that idea of embedding all versions in one hub with a toggle is actually brilliant. I’m now thinking about taking it a step further—building a ‘Version Switchboard’ in my Supabase + Lovable stack so stakeholders can switch prototypes, leave feedback, and see changelogs—all in one link.

Curious if others have tried something similar? Could be a game changer for managing iterations.

@deboraht Great insights! Actually, recently I've added something like a toggle to onf of my prototypes😉
I simply asked in the prompt for a floating button in the top corner with numbers (one, two, three). These numbers switched between versions. It’s still less flexible than feature flags, but it works better than switching through remix versions – since you can share a direct link with someone, and they’ll be able to access everything within a single file and URL even without my guidance.

Love this feature flag style toggles in prototypes would be a game changer for iteration speed! 🚀
