How hard is it to do DNS level redirects? There are many URL shortening / redirect tools but none of them are as fast as Bit.ly.
It's been over a decade but there's still no competitor that can match Bit.ly's 20ms redirect speed. I wonder why?
@rayliverified Hi Ray, I do not know how bit.ly is that fast. Thinking out loud they might be fetching resources at pre flight request, injects them to header and redirect happens instantly when the actual request is sent. We are redirecting after we receive the get request, gather resources and do the redirection. Thanks for your question (:

@bugrasitemkar If you look at the waterfall graph of their load requests, they don't have any request wait time at all. All the time is DNS lookup which is why I think they are writing redirects at the DNS level or as close to it as possible.
@romain_lt Hi Romain, there is an underlying api which is public and exposed. I just had to create a documentation or swagger file for it. Upon your request, I will try to make it ready in a couple of days.

@bugrasitemkar Really nice thank you, I could use it in a future app ;)
@romain_lt public API documentation is up now, please check the link at the bottom of the page to reach Open API specification document. Thanks for asking!
@wilsonbright Hi Wilson, thank you, we are delighted to hear you like URLNet. Server side is .Net Core Mvc 3.0 runs on Heroku. Client side is pure html/ vanilla js/css. Db is MongoDB Atlas on cloud. We will consider your request and we will add sm sharing if we become absolutely sure it doesnt imply any kind of tracking.
@alex_papageorge Dear Alex, if any existing record exists for an url to be shortened, we do not generate another short link for that and use existing one (to not to bog down Db size). I assure you we do not have any kind of tracking even the anonymous kinds ( no cookies, no analytics codes, no metric tracking on server side, etc. )
this is awesome! I can't wait to start using it for sure!
