I Built a Tool to Stop Myself From Leaking Ad Spend (and it worked)

by

Hey Product Hunt,

I'm a solo founder, and like many of you, I've had my share of frustration. The most painful one was spending money on ads, getting a decent amount of clicks, but seeing almost no conversions. It's a feeling of throwing money into a black hole.

I tried to fix it by guessing, changing headlines based on my gut feeling. But that's a recipe for burnout and failure. I realized the only way to win was with data.

So, I built BestLanding. It’s the tool I needed but couldn't find. Something dead simple that automates A/B testing for my landing page copy. No developers, no complex dashboards, just results.

My First Test (and a shocking lesson)

I ran a test on my own landing page. I kept the headline exactly the same but changed the description and CTA.

  • Version A (The Loser): A more complex description and the CTA "Boost My Conversions Free."

    Result: 5.41% CTR

  • Version B (The Winner): A simple, clear description and the CTA "Start Testing Free."

    Result: 13.01% CTR

The winning version nearly tripled my conversion rate. This proved to me that every word on your page matters.

BestLanding helps you find your winning copy so you can stop guessing and start growing.

I'd love for you to check it out and get your feedback.

Hi ! Great idea, just wondering which statistics approach do use ? Is there any way to see split methodology or flexibility in choosing it ?

Hi @ilia_ilinskii, thanks for the great question!

That's an important point, especially when making decisions that impact ad spend.

We use a Bayesian approach for our statistical analysis. Here’s why:

  • Speed: It allows us to calculate the "Chance to Win" in real-time. This is much faster than traditional frequentist methods (which require fixed sample sizes) and helps founders make decisions sooner.

  • Clarity: The result is easy to understand: we show the probability that Variant B is truly better than Variant A (e.g., 98% Chance to Win).

We don't offer flexibility in choosing the methodology right now, as we want to keep the tool extremely simple. Our focus is on providing that one clear metric: which version is the definitive winner.

Thanks again for the insightful question. Happy to dive deeper if you have any others!

@sinx good choice ! based on my analytical background Bayesian approach truly is clearer for decision makers. Wish your project a great future 🙌🏻
