ToneTransfer lets you send a file or message to a nearby device without an account, pairing flow, QR code, or app. The sender encrypts the file in the browser and plays a short melody containing the retrieval code. The receiving browser listens, fetches the encrypted file, and decrypts it automatically. Free and works in modern browsers.

Hey Product Hunt People,

This started with a slightly strange question: if two devices are sitting next to each other, why should sending a file still begin with a login, pairing screen, QR code, or copied link?

ToneTransfer turns the handoff into sound. Choose a file or type a message, let the receiving browser listen, then play a short melody. The sender encrypts the file in the browser, the melody carries a retrieval code, and the receiving browser fetches and decrypts it automatically.

No account. No pairing. No QR code. No app install.

The melody carries the handoff rather than the entire file. But that tiny interaction makes file transfer feel surprisingly physical.

If you only have one device, try the same-device demo. I’d especially love feedback on reliability across browsers, phones, and noisy rooms, along with any use cases this makes you think of.

💎 Pixel perfection

I was able to seamlessly transfer a 10 mb jpeg file over a piano sound. This is so fun.

I thought it was just for some text transfers.

How big of a file can be transferred over it?

over 100MBs very easily. it is very efficient. it first performs a lossless compression to make the weights more efficient.
