Hi Product Hunt, I'm Rob. Toby is the first product I've ever built myself end-to-end, and this is my first launch.
I've spent my career in product, and as most PMs will know, that means a notebook full of ideas which until recently just sat lost among the pages. AI coding tools changed that for me. Toby is the first idea I've taken from a sketch to something people can actually use and pay for, on my own.
Why this idea: I'm leaving my current role, and I've been sitting in interviews for my own replacement. Somewhere around the fourth one, I started wondering how candidates were preparing. Probably asking ChatGPT or Claude for a list of likely questions. But a list doesn't push back, and it can't tell you that your best example had no numbers in it. What they really needed was a practice run with me. So I wondered, could I automate myself?
Toby is the interview before the interview, and it works like this:
1. Paste the job description. Toby researches the company and maps every round, from recruiter screen to case.
2. Take the call in a Meet, Teams or Zoom-style room. Real mode runs it straight through. Coach mode gives you a note after each answer and a retry.
3. Get the debrief. A score against the role's rubric, the quote behind each score, pace and filler words, and a stronger version of each answer built only from what you actually said.
Pricing is simple. No subscription. You just pay 50p a minute for time on a call; briefs and debriefs are included.
As a first-time builder, the most useful thing you can give me is honesty: run one round for a role you actually want (or are hiring for), then tell me where the debrief was wrong. I still have a lot of work to do, but feedback would really help me out!

How do you handle the latency that makes the conversation feel a little artificial?
@ilyasb thanks appreciate the support! That part is still quite tricky to be honest, and one thing that makes it feel artificial more than the latency is the inability to pronounce certain terms/company names properly; for example I heard it say “How much experience do you have with A slash B testing” which was a little weird haha It’s nowhere near perfect, but hopefully it feels somewhat natural to speak with right now nonetheless and I’ll work on improving it.
