Thumbs - For photographers: cull Lightroom Classic shoots on iPhone

by•
For photographers who edit in Lightroom Classic. Send a shoot from your Mac to your iPhone and cull it anywhere: swipe to keep or reject, tap for stars, even offline. Every flag and star lands back on the right photo. Originals stay on your Mac.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm David, a photographer and solo developer. I build plugins for Lightroom Classic, the desktop app a lot of photographers use to organize and edit their shoots. A quick filter so nobody wastes a click: Thumbs is for photographers who come home with a lot of frames (weddings, events, portraits, sport) and manage them in Lightroom Classic on a Mac. If that isn't you, it won't do much for you, though I'd still love your take on the idea. The problem: before any editing, every shoot has to be culled, which means going through hundreds or thousands of photos and deciding which to keep and which to throw out. It can easily take two hours at the desk, one arrow key at a time. Thumbs moves the cull to your phone: 1. In Lightroom Classic, select the shoot and send it. Small previews upload in the background. 2. On the iPhone, swipe right to keep, left to reject, tap for stars. Press and hold for a loupe to check focus. Once the shoot is downloaded it works with no signal, so a flight or a train ride counts. 3. Back at the Mac, one command puts every pick, reject and star on the right photo in your catalog. A few things I cared about: your originals never leave your Mac (only small previews travel, and each shoot clears itself off the server after 90 days). There's no account, just a six-character code to pair the phone. And it only brings flags and stars back, nothing else in your catalog changes. Pricing: the app and the plugin are free, and so are culls up to 100 photos. For full shoots it's $5 a month, or $29 a year at launch. For Product Hunt: the code PRODUCTHUNT takes 50% off your first payment, monthly or yearly, at checkout on lightroom-tools.com until 20 October. It's Mac and iPhone for now. The plugin hasn't been tested on Windows yet, so tell me if you need it, and there's no Android. I'm around all day and happy to answer anything. I'd really like to know what would make you try it on your next shoot.
