The Observatory - A new word every day, three challenges and your own galaxy

Every day a new word waits in the viewfinder. Learn what it means, how it's used and where it comes from, then master it with three quick challenges: Comprehension, Usage and Mastery. Each word becomes a star in your own galaxy, grouped into constellations by category. Review brings words back right before you'd forget them, and 3D companions react to every answer. Streaks, widgets and a weekly leaderboard with friends. The whole app works in English and Spanish. Free on iPhone and Android.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Axel, the solo developer behind The Observatory: Daily Word.

For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a word-based app that lets you learn something new without even having to look for it. Curiosity is a virtue I like to nurture, which is why this app is designed to surprise you with words you might not have known before.

The idea is simple: one word a day, in a few minutes. You "find" it in a telescope viewfinder, read what it means, how it's used and where it comes from, and then you face three challenges: Comprehension, Usage and Mastery.

A few things about The Observatory: Daily Word

  • Every word you learn becomes a star in your own galaxy, grouped into constellations by category.

  • Review brings words back right before you'd forget them.

  • 3D companions (Kepler the owl, Vera the octopus, Sagan the fox…) react to your answers, and you can dress them up with the points you earn.

  • The whole app works in English and Spanish.

It's free on iPhone and Android, with ads and no subscription.

I'd love your feedback: which word would you want to find tomorrow?
