Telemetry - Predicts when you'll reach your goals.

by•
Telemetry is an open-source progress tracker that predicts when you'll reach your goals. As you capture data, predictions get more and more accurate, helping you see how short-term actions impact longer-term results.

Hey Product Hunt! Back in my early twenties, I found myself in a financial pinch — not keeping track of my finances landed me in debt. It had silently swollen to a staggering amount (between $60k-$70k), and with interest rates at 22%, it seemed virtually impossible to make a dent. I anxiously realized that my lack of awareness had allowed this to become far worse than I had imagined. But then, almost on a whim, I decided to write down my debt in a good old Excel spreadsheet. It wasn't anything fancy, I just wrote down the total debt, week by week. I remember making a chart with a trendline that, when extrapolated, showed I would be out of debt in 12 years if I kept going at that rate. It was a crude estimate, but something clicked. Seeing that line trend downwards, even just on paper, was powerful. I decided to experiment, throwing an extra $50 towards my debt here and there. The graph shifted, bringing the horizon closer, and for the first time I felt the weight lift as I saw how small, consistent actions could have a substantial impact. I could actually get out of debt. This newfound motivation wasn't just fleeting inspiration; it turned into real, tangible results. In under three years, I had shed the debt completely, turning my financial situation around to the point where I was increasing my net worth $100K+ each year. As time went on, my goals became more and more complex - the Excel method began to feel more burdensome than it was worth. It struck me — I had the skills to make this whole process simpler and more intuitive. Taking matters into my own hands, I started working on what would eventually become Telemetry. Sure, it took a decade and went through a few iterations — some too complex for their own good. But ultimately I landed on something straightforward, designed with the everyday user in mind. It quickly became more that just finances, but any quantifiable goal. Telemetry is a progress tracker for Windows/MacOS. In the same way that you can capture data in Excel and create a chart, you can log data points in Telemetry and it will chart your progress over time. What makes it powerful is that it uses various trendline (regression) models to automatically predict when you'll reach your goal. On top of that, it'll tell you an estimated accuracy for the prediction, which improves over time both as you add more data and as the goal gets closer to completion. Nowadays, I use Telemetry constantly. It's not only helping me monitor my personal and professional goals, but I’m even using Telemetry to keep track of how many people download it for each OS, how many stars the project has on GitHub, etc. Being able to see how the small short-term actions I take help to drive progress towards long-term goals is invaluable insight. I can not only set realistic goals, but I can be aware weeks or months ahead of time if I'm off-track and need to course-correct. I hope you can find good use for Telemetry, considering we're all only a few short weeks away from setting our new years resolutions, and hopefully actually making them happen. Because when it comes down to it, life's a little easier to navigate when you can see where you're going.
