@liveink pulled me into using this and I'm loving it. It's super fast and has must have muting/notification controls to manage specific chats or group vs. private messages. The Mac app is slick too.
It's sad that I cannot find people around to use it together. My friends and family don't care that much about privacy and just uses whatever is at hand, most of the time WeChat and Facebook.
It keeps growing. Anyone know where the sudden growth came from?
"@telegram: 4 million users joined Telegram within the last 18 hours. We're doing our best, but the service is getting unstable due to high load."

@rrhoover I'm guessing the growth is due to a combination of people bailing due to the FB acquisition of Whatsapp and that Whatsapp was down for almost four hours yesterday.
In The Netherlands, with one of the highest penetration rates of Whatsapp usage (we don't refer to messaging, but to 'app' eachother), over 800k users have moved to Telegram after the acquisition in Western-europe.
It feels completely as 'viral' growth, mostly based on word-of-mouth 'privacy' concerns of whatsapp/facebook.
It also helps being #1 in the app store: https://twitter.com/telegram/sta...
A smart engagement trick is that every friend that installs Telegram will show as incoming 'message' in your chat list, making them directly accessible to welcome them...
