TaalAI - Practice Real conversations with your AI Tutor

1. What inspired you to build this? We built TaalAI after seeing how difficult it is to go from "I understand the language" to "I can actually speak it". Most language-learning apps are great at vocabulary, grammar, and keeping you motivated with streaks, but real conversations are a completely different challenge. Learners often know what they want to say but struggle with pronunciation, finding the right words, or simply getting enough opportunities to practice. We wanted to build something that feels less like completing exercises and more like having a personal language tutor available whenever you need one. What problem were you trying to solve? The biggest problem was the gap between learning a language and actually using it. Traditional courses are expensive and scheduled. Language apps can feel repetitive and don't always adapt to how you personally learn. And practicing conversations with another person isn't always convenient. TaalAI gives learners an AI tutor they can practice with anytime for speaking, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, and real-world conversations while adapting the experience to their level. We started with Dutch because we saw a particularly strong need among people living in or moving to the Netherlands who want to become confident using Dutch in everyday life. The initial idea was much simpler build an AI chatbot for practicing Dutch. As we tested the product, we realized that a chatbot alone wasn't enough. The real value comes from creating a structured learning experience around the conversation. So we evolved TaalAI from a simple AI conversation tool into a more complete learning companion: assessing the learner's level, adapting practice to their needs, combining conversation with vocabulary and pronunciation practice, and giving feedback after they practice. For this launch, our focus isn't just on getting downloads. We want to learn from real learners, understand where they struggle, and continuously improve TaalAI around those real-world needs. Make practicing a new language feel as natural as having a personal tutor with you whenever you need one.
