3D solar simulator (because enterprise software is too expensive)

by•

Hey Product Hunt! 👋

Tomorrow, I'm officially launching SunTrace3D, which is essentially solar analysis tool.

I built this because figuring out if your roof actually gets enough sunlight usually requires hiring a specialist with expensive desktop software ($2,000–$10,000/seat/year) and waiting days for a static report. I thought there should be a frictionless way to just check for yourself.

With SunTrace3D, you open your browser, type any address on Earth, and within seconds you get a photorealistic 3D model of the area.

What you can do with it:

  • Scrub through any hour of the day to watch real-time shadow simulation.

  • Click on a rooftop to place virtual solar panels.

  • Get instant energy yield calculations backed by the European Commission's satellite database.

Dropping tomorrow: Based on early feedback, tomorrow's launch will also include a brand new feature: 90° vertical panel placement so apartment renters can test balcony solar setups!

I'll be posting the live link tomorrow morning. If you want to check if your neighbor's trees will block your solar potential, get your addresses ready!

Let me know if you have any questions about the 3D generation process or the tech stack in the meantime.
