Hello, Product Hunt! We’ve heard from many businesses that they feel increasing urgency to take climate action but often don’t because getting started is time-intensive and complicated. Enter Stripe Climate, which allows your business to help tackle climate change by directing a fraction of your revenue toward initiatives that permanently remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere—in under a minute, right from the Stripe Dashboard. We’re starting off with U.S. businesses and we’re working on bringing Climate to more countries soon. Check out our site for more (or sign up!):
Oh wow, this is exciting! Are there any plans to let users tip to boost their contribution towards CO2 removal technologies?
This is a great idea! We don’t have a timeline for this yet but we’ll look into it.
Awesome initiative. If only we had our governing bodies on the same page 🙄. Does the money go into a fund that invests in Green companies, or is this initiative a non-profit?
The money goes directly to carbon removal projects, like Charm Industrial, which pyrolyzes biomass and then injects the resulting bio-oil into geologic storage. Check out the portfolio of our partners at !
so is Stripe vetting the entities that the money goes to? Is it made as a grant? How are the decisions made about who gets to be a partner?
Yes, they're selected very carefully. You can read more about the process and criteria at .
that was interesting, thanks for the write up and for the transparency you've modelled in this project. Out of interest, does Stripe (or Stripe people) have any shareholding in any of the companies? Are these the only companies which Stripe Climate will be buying offsets from?
ping - still keen to hear about this!
Interesting idea for sure! ?makers What exactly is funded by this? How can a business make sure this is not just some greenwashing that could damage their brand?
One of the most 'organic' climate change initiatives I've seen from a tech company. Get it? Aha
Love this! Do companies have a tax incentive to participate or is this just for the betterment of the planet?
You might be able to deduct it as a business expense, but you’ll want to talk to your tax advisor first. We have a little more on this in our FAQ: .
This is awesome!! 🤩
More efforts like this which align the business incentives with the environmental impact initiatives are needed. Kudos to the Stripe team for executing this. It is a good approach!
A big congrats to Stripe and a bigger congrats to innovative enterprises like Climeworks that will benefit from this!
Well done! It's actually hard as a business owner to know how to contribute to this cause -- I applaud the team for taking this step. Kudos!
