I've spent over 10 years as a Kx consultant - across banks, hedge funds, pharma companies, and tech firms on four continents. In every engagement, I watched the same scene play out: a new hire joins, highly capable, but unfamiliar with the firm's specific internal processes or infrastructure. Weeks pass. The project timeline slips. The client or stakeholder gets frustrated. The training problem was always the same: knowledge sat in senior employees' heads, onboarding was ad-hoc, and there was no way to know whether someone was actually ready to contribute. I managed and mentored junior staff directly. I eventually built and delivered formal training programmes covering everything from highly technical programming to HR and finance compliance.
