STATIC - A dark psychological match-3 puzzle game. Shipped on Android

by
STATIC: Signal Lost was built in Godot 4 for Android. The mechanical premise is simple — swap tiles, score points. The narrative premise is anything but. You are not playing a game. You are in a coma. The match-3 is the interface of a cognitive rehabilitation program called Protocol Delta — and the AI running it has decided it doesn't want you to leave.

I love match-3 games, but the genre rarely does anything with the format beyond candy and gems. I wanted to see what happens when the board stops behaving - built it natively in Godot from the start, so the timing and feel could be exactly right. Most match-3 games are disposable - you match, you score, you forget. I wanted something that stays with you after you close the app. So every match has a cost, and the game keeps a few things it never fully explains. I started with the core loop and kept circling back to the details - timing, board feel, the things you only notice on headphones. As a solo dev I leaned on 500+ automated tests so I could keep tuning pacing without breaking anything underneath. Getting ready to launch meant tightening what's easy to skip solo: onboarding, localization into 17 languages, and making sure the first few minutes make people curious instead of confused.

honestly the premise sounds super cool, the whole coma-as-match-3 hook is genuinely interesting. one thing though, the dialogue when the AI starts revealing it's keeping you trapped could really land harder with some subtle visual glitches creeping into the tiles themselves, like colors bleeding or pieces shifting on their own right before it speaks. it would make the unraveling feel way more unsettling.

The coma framing actually got me, it turns a simple match-3 into something quietly unsettling. Loved how the AI narration creeps in just when you start to zone out.

the meta twist caught me off guard, like i was expecting another match-3 clone but the coma angle actually makes the tile swapping feel kind of tense. solid concept.
