I was curious about how those who are hard of hearing navigates situations like solo trips and solo outings. After a market study, I realized that google speech to text seems to be the go to tool for identifying sounds in the surroundings. However, it requires an active internet connection to work and google collects user data. This inspired me to build safespaces which runs the Speech to text and sound classification model locally requiring no internet connection once the website is cached. Since the model is local to the device, there is no data being collected.
